DISTRICT TEACHERS RECEIVE PNC BANK GRANTS
Published: January 17, 2012

The District 709 Board of Education recognized four teachers in January for applying for and receiving grants from PNC Bank. Heather Hochstettler, a first grade teacher at Jefferson School, received a grant for a curriculum that allows students to play games while learning specific math and reading skills. This curriculum also allows her to work with students on specific skills areas where they need additional help.

Three science teachers at Morton High School were also recognized for receiving a grant from PNC Bank - Kevin Hodel, Brittany McNulty and Jacob Tierney. They will use the grant money to purchase probes that will be used in the science department to measure and collect data on experiments that look at concepts such as acid or motion. These probes allow students to collect the data in real time and then download it to a computer and read and analyze the results.
